LETTER FROM THE EDITOR: THE TREVOR PROJECT

"When all Americans are treated as equal, no matter who they are or whom they love, we are all more free.” — Barack Obama

The mental health crisis among America's youth is stark, with rates of depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation soaring over the past decade. While the exact causes remain elusive, factors like toxic social media environments and limited economic opportunities contribute. Now, compound that crisis by threefold: LGBT+ youth endure these mental health challenges at nearly triple the rate of their heterosexual peers.

Shockingly, close to 50% of LGBT+ youth have self-harmed within the past year, while 40% have grappled with serious suicidal thoughts. Enter The Trevor Project, the globe's foremost suicide prevention and mental health organization dedicated to LGBT+ youth. Their arsenal of services ranges from a 24/7 crisis hotline to readily available trained counselors and the pioneering TrevorSpace, the world's inaugural safe social networking platform for LGBT+ youth.

In essence, The Trevor Project turns donations into lives saved within the LGBT+ community. At Sainte Jean, we're driven by purpose — the purpose to maximize the positive impact of every dollar directed towards charitable causes. While our focus often centers on investment-driven initiatives, we're honored to stand alongside organizations like The Trevor Project.

Their track record of evidence-backed interventions and ability to convert donated funds into tangible change has earned them a rare 100% rating on Charity Navigator. The Trevor Project's mission is unequivocal: to end suicide among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ+) young people. Their vision is equally compelling: to foster a world where every LGBTQ+ youth envisions a bright and promising future for themselves.

To fulfill this mission and vision, The Trevor Project employs a multifaceted approach: Crisis Services, Advocacy, Research, Peer Support, and Education and Public Awareness. Sainte Jean's collaboration with The Trevor Project reflects our commitment to fostering a more inclusive and supportive world for all.

By allocating 5% of Sainte Jean supporters' purchases to The Trevor Project, we're investing in the well-being and futures of the youth. Together, we can rewrite the narrative, offering hope, support, and the promise of a brighter tomorrow to every young individual within the LGBT+ community.

Best, Tenay Mathis
